We can’t all honor our mothers as spectacularly as Mark Goldman has done in Tillie: A New York City Girl, 1906-2001, but we can all enjoy the marvelous tale he has woven based on Tillie’s life growing up in the Garment district in mid-century New York City – living on Riverside Drive, playing in Central Park, accompanying her father to work in the Garment District in a Willys Jeep, becoming involved in the Spanish Civil War…a colorful facet of the Jewish immigrant experience through the eyes of a fierce woman.

Lushly illustrated with found family photographs, this memoir by award-winning author Mark Goldman is a feast for the eyes and will speak to your soul.

Although not officially part of the 53rd Annual JCC Book & Arts Fair, the launch of Tillie at the JCC on the day after Mother’s Day is certainly in the spirit of this notable event.

Join us on Monday, May 13 from 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Jewish Community Center Holland Building (787 Delaware Avenue) for an entertaining talk by Mark Goldman on his experience growing up with Tillie in New York City, how he made his way to Buffalo, and why he wrote his mother’s memoir.

There will be light refreshments, excellent entertainment and plenty of books to have signed.

Free parking available in both the JCC and the Temple Beth Zion lots.
