Presented by WNED | WBFO’s “Making Buffalo Home,” the event celebrates the opening of “Finding Refuge in Buffalo”, a photo and essay collection by University at Buffalo’s Director of Journalism, Jody K. Biehl, and internationally recognized photographer Brendan Bannon. The exhibit touches on questions of home, belonging, culture, and what it means to be American. The event will also celebrate the ongoing “Making Buffalo Home” project, which uses the power of public media on the air, online, and in the community to deepen our understanding of each other.

The May 10 opening event is family-friendly and features videos from the “Making Buffalo Home” project and an interactive conversation with immigrants who, in many cases, took great risks to call Buffalo home. Attendees are encouraged to come with a family photo or memento, share their family’s story with others, and listen to others tell their stories. Volunteers will be on hand to help attendees share their stories and add them to both Biehl’s database of immigration stories and the “Making Buffalo Home” project.
