Living in the desert is no easy task, and many plants have adapted to not only survive but thrive in the desert! Learn all about desert ecology, plant adaptations, and create your own succulent planter to take a slice of the desert home with you. This special learning experience is best suited for children eight to thirteen years old.

Meet your instructor, Ellie!

Ellie joined our team in August 2022 as our Educator and Volunteer Coordinator. After growing up nearby in Akron, NY, Ellie went on to continue her education at the SUNY College of Environmental Science and Forestry and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Environmental Education and Interpretation. After graduating in the midst of the pandemic, she traveled and found a passion for educating people about environmental science and community outreach in Syracuse and Colorado before moving to the city of Buffalo. Ellie has a passion for all aspects of the natural world, with special interests in prehistoric plants, birds of prey, and mycology. She has recently completed her Masters of Education in Science Communication at the University at Buffalo and enjoys cooking, traveling, kayaking, hiking, and hanging out with her cats and tortoise in her free time!
