Explore how the built environment- our streets, sidewalks, homes, etc- can promote healthy behaviors in order to prevent chronic illnesses. All over the country, walkable communities are popping up as a way to keep people healthy mentally and physically. And the added bonus? These communities also enjoy greater social and civic engagement! Local businesses reap the benefits of bustling neighborhoods and people report greater happiness. These traits are also linked to longer, healthier lives.

So what about Buffalo? Well, exciting things are happening here too! Come to our panel to find out more about the power of the built environment, and what Buffalo is doing about it. Panelists include:

Dr. Kate Kraft, Executive Director of America Walks

Steven Stepniak, Commissioner of Public Works in the City of Buffalo

Kelly Dixon, Transportation Analyst at GBNRTC

Joy Kuebler, Landscape Architect

The panel will be hosted at the y Hotel Henry. The doors open at 8:30 and the panel begins at 9. Around 11 we'll wrap up with a walk around the grounds of the H.H. Richardson Complex. This event is FREE, but we ask you to register here as space is limited. Refreshments will be provided.

All attendees will also receive a copy of the Wellness Institute of Greater Buffalo’s new Healthy Neighborhoods Walkability Assessment Toolkit courtesy of the Buffalo Niagara Realtors Association!!

Hope to see you there!
