A one act opera in English. The hilariously funny modern opera, ‘The Music Shop’ by Richard Wargo is based on a story by Anton Chekhov about a man, Ivan (tenor Ubaldo Feliciano-Hernandez) instructed by his wife (soprano Melissa Parks) to go to a music store to buy her a piece of music to sing for a prestigious event. He proceeds to forget the name of the song and Dmitri the shopkeeper (bass Valerian Ruminski) and his assistant Masha (soprano Sherrie Cohen Miles) sing almost every piece of music in the place! Hallucinations of the rage of his Wagnerian soprano wife ensue and his own unhappy fate if he returns empty-handed. Watch a mad scramble through the entire stock of “the largest collection of music in all of Russia” in a desperate attempt to recognise the requested melody in the ill-fated music shop. A tour of opera and song. Directed by Valerian Ruminski and Steve Vaughan.
