The 12th Annual World on Your Plate Food and Sustainable Living Conference

Friday and Saturday, October 9 & 10, 2015

Daemen College, Wick Campus Center, 4380 Main St, Amherst, NY 14226 !

World on Your Plate (WOYP) aims to restore the earth by promoting sustainability for farmers, farm workers and consumers alike; advance education and action on issues of food safety, security, and sovereignty; and create a table where all are welcome.!

To fulfill this mission, each year for the past 11 years, WOYP has held a conference on food and sustainable living in Western New York, currently hosted at Daemen College. Keynote speakers such as Francis Moore Lappe, Sandra Steingraber, John Mohawk, Howard Lyman, John DeGraaf, Judy Wicks, Mark Kastel, Walter Simpson & others have participated in our forum.

On Friday evening, October 9, Jonathan Bloom (author of America Wasteland) will speak on “The Food Not Eaten;” on Saturday, October 10, Rowen White, from Seed Saver’s will present on "Seeds - Components to Our Future Sustainability.” !

Also on Saturday, participants will be offered a wide variety of workshops, including topics on Food Justice, Community Gardens, Healing Power of Cultural Arts, Renewable Energy, Weston Price, Cellular Health, Socially Responsible Investing, Cookware, Haudenosaunee Nutrition, Yemeni and Mediterranean traditions, GMOs and many more.

Whether your interest is in social justice, health, politics, food production or preservation, there will workshops of interest to you! ! Our local organic farmers have traditionally donated their amazing (local & in-season) produce for a scrumptious lunch prepared by Daemen Staff. (All included in registration.)

Porter Farms, Thorpe’s Family Organic Farm, and Native Offerings have been with us since 2004 when the first food forum was held at Pilgrim St. Luke’s UCC. Since then other farmers & vendors, local &/or organic have generously contributed to the event. We have been very gratified to see an increase in community supported agriculture (CSAs), urban farming, and food-related businesses throughout the WNY area. !

An informal Friday dinner & movie, Saturday’s local vendors, information tables, raffles, Mexican-Spanish folk dance demo (by Leonel & Dolores Rosario), Acoustic Music (by Jim Vozga & friends), and refreshments add fun & liveliness to the event. Check out www.worldonyourplate.org to view our full schedule. !

In order to welcome all to the event and “table,” we work very hard to keep registration cost within everyone’s means. WOYP offers free (pre)-registration to students, as well as scholarships to those unable to pay registration. Please consider becoming a sponsor or donating to this superb event at www.worldonyourplate.org! !

Come join the fun, browse, learn a lot, eat well and enjoy good company & networking!
