An event put on by the Buffalo Orienteering Club. Come learn about orienteering and how to do orienteering.  Arrive at Emery Park and follow the orienteering signs to the registration area.

The event allows you to work with an instructor to learn how to read a topographical map, how to use a compass and how to begin navigating to controls which are points on the map. After learning those basic skills the instructor will lead you through a practice course and teach you how to navigate to the controls in that practice course.

What is orienteering?
Orienteering is a sport where the participant uses a topographic map and a compass to navigate to particular points.  At those points are flags called controls.  The goal is to find the controls in order along the orienteering course.  Participants can be fast competitors who race from control to control or casual participants who walk from control to control.  In both instances the sport requires both mental and physical skills.

Cost: $10 ($5 for club members)

Groups are charged $10 ($5) for the group leader and $2 for each additional individual over 11 years old in the group.

After learning how to do orienteering stay for the Orienteering Meet that immediately follows.
