The Post-Landfill Action Network (PLAN) is going on a national tour where they are showcasing individuals and organizations who are challenging the linear consumption model from the point of extraction all the way to the site of disposal. With PLAN, UB Sustainability and the Dare to Repair Cafe initiative are hosting a Repair and Reuse fair and speaker event on March 12th, 2018.

Through highlighting the resistance efforts of frontline communities, companies who are taking holistic approaches to manufacturing, water protectors and land defenders who stand for indigenous sovereignty, and lots of other work, they strive to show the many of ways we can intervene in this broken system. Most of all, we want to show that while no one can do everything, everyone can do something. In recognizing people who resist, redesign, repair, reuse, rediscover, and reclaim, we hope you walk away from this event inspired, activated and motivated.

The Repair Fair will offer the UB community an opportunity to learn about challenging the consumption economy, offer resources to help people learn how to repair everyday items and find their point of intervention. Knowledge areas include: sewing, simple car maintenance, bike repairs, toilet repairs, simple electronic repairs, and home weather-proofing tips. The Repair Fair will showcase local organizations and national companies who are committed to reducing waste and shifting away from a linear consumption model. We’ll even have a pop-up clothing swap shop!

The speaker event features experts who will speak up to 18 minutes about their personal journeys and professional discoveries around different Points of Intervention. Current speakers will focus on the areas of intervention before extraction, intervention before consumption, intervention at the site of disposal, and re-inventing the current business model.

The Repair and Reuse Fair will take place at the Student Union Lobby from 12pm-3pm.

Our speaker series will begin at 4:00pm at the Student Union Theater.

We look forward to seeing you at the fair and/or speaking engagement!
