This 90-minute overview bus tour of Buffalo’s historic and architectural landmarks is an excellent introduction to Buffalo’s architectural landscape, passing by famous works by Henry Hobson Richardson, Louis Sullivan, and Frank Lloyd Wright. Landmarks designed by local architects such as E.B. Green, Dietel & Wade, Esenwein & Johnson, and Louise Blanchard Bethune will also be seen on the tour. In addition, the tour will pass through several park and parkway spaces designed by Frederick Law Olmsted, along with great urban neighborhoods including Parkside, Allentown, and the Elmwood Village.

A drive along “Millionaire Mile” on Delaware Avenue will showcase the opulence of Buffalo’s Gilded Age elite at the turn of the twentieth century. The tour will also pass many of Buffalo’s renowned cultural attractions, including the Albright-Knox Art Gallery, Buffalo History Museum, and Kleinhans Music Hall. Along the way, the tour will provide a background narrative of local history, from the opening of the Erie Canal to the Pan-American Exposition in 1901 to the current urban renaissance.

All of the areas and landmarks seen on the tour can be explored in greater depth on an Explore Buffalo walking tour, or with other local organizations for buildings such as the Darwin Martin House and Theodore Roosevelt Inaugural Site. Your experienced docent will be happy to provide information about visiting any of the places seen on the tour.
