The Complete History of Cheektowaga (As I Remember It), by Michael Lauer, a coming of age story about a bunch of kids growing up in the 1970s and early ’80s in the Town of Cheektowaga, is the latest release from NFB Publishing in Buffalo.

Based on actual events and people, the book provides a flavor of life in a typical middle class, suburban neighborhood, where the characters discover girls, alcohol and the need for friendship in a world that seems to be getting ever more difficult. But sometimes what you need most is not available. Or, maybe you just need to ask for it.

“Interspersed within the story are ‘history lessons,’ or slices of time from the characters’ lives,” said the author. “By doing this, the Town of Cheektowaga becomes part of the story, and we see it change along with the characters.”
