Hamid's most recent novel of magical realism is Exit West. Exit West has been praised as “the best writing of Hamid’s career” (NPR) and it has been shortlisted for numerous awards including the Man Booker Prize and was listed as one of the ten Best Books by The New York Times Book Review.

Hamid made a name for himself with the book The Reluctant Fundamentalist, which sold over a million copies and was made into a film. Israeli-American novelist Ayelet Waldman writes: “It was as if Hamid knew what was going to happen to America and the world, and gave us a road map to our future…. At once terrifying and…oddly hopeful.”

Hamid’s prose style is very cool, with equal weight being placed on the most intimate and the most banal details in the book.
