This 1998 pulitzer prize winning drama dares to break the silence about sexual abuse hiding in plain sight.  a memory play told out of sequence in a hauntingly understated style, this story takes us back to small-town Maryland in the late 1960s when a seemingly charming uncle's advances on his teenage niece go from bad to worse.

Subversive theatre is proud to revive this 20-year-old landmark work by Paula Vogel. Originally premiering at NYC's Vinyard Theatre in 1998 with Mary Louise Parker in the lead role, this searingly honest play seems more relevant than ever in #metoo America.

HOW I LEARNED TO DRIVE is directed by subversive's associate artistic director Kelly M. Beuth* and stars Andrea Gollhardt and John Profeta* with a "Greek Chorus" featuring Brittany Germano*, Theresa DiMuro-Wilber*, Justin Fiordaliso, Jenny Gembka, and Molly/Oliver Lewars.  set design is by Christopher Wilson* with lighting by Kurt Schneiderman* and sound & videography by Bob Van Valin*.

This production runs Jan 18 - Feb 10 with performances Thursdays, Fridays, and Saturdays at 7:30 at our home venue THE MANNY FRIED PLAYHOUSE at 255 great arrow avenue on the third floor of north buffalo's historic great arrow building.

Tickets are $30 general admission, $25 for students, seniors, and subversive theatre members.
