Colin Rigsby does many things well—but domesticity is not one of them.

Rigsby, who has been playing drums since the age of 12, took a stab at civilian life following more than a decade of writing, recording, and touring the world with his band House of Heroes, but it didn’t take very well.

“After the band had started to wind down I tried to take a break from music and be very domesticated and get into other hobbies,” he said. “Nothing really stuck and I asked a friend who’s a local promoter to throw me on as an acoustic opener for any shows he had. I fleshed out a bunch of unfinished songs I had started over the years and just started figuring out how to be a solo guy playing guitar and singing.”

What started out as a remedy for restlessness, however, soon developed into a full-blown passion and the beginnings of Rigsby’s new solo project--Vesperteen.

Within a few months of going “solo” Rigsby had penned a new batch of songs and teamed up with his good friend and accomplished music producer, Jesse Cale, to produce Vesperteen’s self-titled debut EP, which was released in September 2015.

Vesperteen’s pop/rock sound, reminiscent of bands like The 1975 and Bleachers, has connected with a large audience. In just over a year, Rigsby has accrued more than 10,000 followers across social media platforms and generated 150,000 plays on Spotify as an independent artist.

Additionally, Vesperteen has toured the Midwest and opened for several national acts including Family Force Five and Layne.

The goal, said Rigsby, is to play as many shows as possible, record more music and to continue connecting with his audience in meaningful ways.

“I want people to hear ideas they’ve never considered, feel things along with me, find some solidarity, exorcise some demons and move their bodies,” he said.

Vesperteen recently released a new single, What We Could Have Been, on Sept. 16 and will be touring extensively this fall.
