Opening Reception: May 23rd, 6pm-9pm

“In the context of physical construction, deconstruction is the selective dismantlement of building components, specifically for re-use, and recycling; also defined as ‘construction in reverse.’”

Come join us for the opening reception of Deconstructing Main Street, a new series by Max Collins. On display will be a collection of mixed media photographs documenting the ongoing projects occurring across several blocks in downtown Buffalo on Main Street, including various historic building restoration jobs as well as the reintroduction of traffic lanes to the longtime-idle pedestrian mall.

Max Collins is a photographer and public artist from East Aurora, NY who received his BFA from the University of Michigan School of Art & Design in 2011. His photography has been published in the New York Times, Michigan Daily, Block Club Magazine, Artvoice and Spark Magazine and solo exhibitions of his work have been presented at Main(St) Studios, 464 Gallery, and Rò in Buffalo. As an educator, he has spoken about his art at the Burchfield Penney Art Museum, RIT, SUNY Fredonia, and the University of Nebraska. He has executed numerous public murals in WNY as well as Ann Arbor, MI, Lexington, KY, & Los Angeles, CA. He currently maintains a studio in downtown Buffalo and will be pursuing his MFA in Visual Studies at the University of Buffalo this fall.

Collins’ show is the third in the 12 x 14 series at WNYBAC, which features 5 artists over the course of 12 months; each artist is charged with conducting a free hands-on workshop that will be open to the general public, as well as producing a print that measures 12″ x 14″ that will be compiled in an end-of-the-year, limited-edition portfolio.

Max's free workshop will be held on Saturday, May 31st from 12-2pm. Registration details coming soon...

12 x 14 is made possible by the New York State Council on the Arts with the support of Governor Cuomo & New York State Legislature.
