The summer of Frampton-related events concludes at Silo City with a live concert by Lichens, the solo improvisation project of renowned Chicago-based composer Robert A.A. Lowe. Lichens performs a live score accompanied by a background of Frampton’s films derived from the Magellan series, against the backdrop of Buffalo’s grain silos. This program is funded by the Erie Canal Harbor Development Corporation, administered by Arts Services Initiative and presented by Squeaky Wheel.

The CEPA Gallery exhibition and sale, ending on September 5, was the first comprehensive survey of the late artist’s print work in over 30 years. Many pieces in the exhibit had never been presented in a gallery setting.

Included in CEPA’s exhibit are early photos by Frampton of his artist friends and roommates. While living in New York City in the late 1950s and early ‘60s, he made candid portraits of Larry Poons, James Rosenquist, Frank Stella, and others—before any of them ascended to their place on the artistic world stage.

Also included in this exhibition and sale are rare xerographic works—created during the advent of the color copier—showcasing Frampton’s pioneering work, making art with this new technology.

This concludes an exceptional, community-wide celebration of the multidisciplinary work and legacy of Hollis Frampton.
